T-Level Education and Early Years – Level 3

New for 2024

What’s it about?

  • T level is equivalent to three A levels and is available to those aged 16 – 19.
  • It is made up of 80% classroom work and 20% work placement.
  • Level 3 qualification
  • 2 Year course
  • Includes 9 weeks minimum working with an employer on an industry placement (21 weeks if you take the Early Years Educator specialism).

Entry Requirements:

We would recommend a level 4 or equivalent at GCSE in English and mathematics, and a grade 4 GCSE in science.

    Course Content:

    • Understanding the Education and Early Years sector from ages 0 to 19 child development
    • How to support children and young people’s education
    • Safeguarding, health and safety and wellbeing
    • Understanding and managing behaviour
    • Observing and assessing children and young people
    • Equality and diversity
    • Special educational needs and disability
    • English as an additional language
    • Working with parents, carers and wider families
    • Working with agencies and services that support children, families and carers
    • Reflective practice and other forms of professional development

    Options to Specialise

    In addition to the core content, each student must choose one of the following specialisms:

    • Early years educator
    • Assisting teaching

    Progression

    • Nursery Worker
    • Teaching Assistant
    • Learning Mentor
    • Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant
    • Playworker
    • Portage Home Visitor
    • A related higher-level apprenticeship or degree course
